Since its founding, Norteak has been guided by a strong vision of climate mitigation. Our reforestation projects in Nicaragua are designed not only to cultivate high-value teak and native forests but also to remove carbon from the atmosphere in meaningful and measurable ways.
Forming the Norteak Group
The rigorous certification process required for carbon credit generation often creates a barrier for many landowners to finance reforestation. To help overcome this challenge and expand access, Norteak established the Norteak Group under the VERRA standard—enabling smaller plantations in surrounding areas to participate.
In the initial phase, two medium-sized projects—Ekoteak and Limonapa/MSSA—joined the group. Once the system is successfully implemented, we aim to welcome additional actors, including those with smaller land holdings.
Together, the group manages the full value chain: from producing seedlings and restoring degraded land, to maintaining long-term forest cover, and finally converting harvested timber into sustainable wood products like furniture and housing.
Our goal is simple: to ensure that carbon removals are not only immediate but also durable and impactful over time.
